Pre-Mixing Checklist and Information
Before sending your tracks over for mixing, please ensure you've gone through the following checklist. Following these steps will ensure best possible outcome for your project.
Preparing Your Stems
• Export: Consolidate tracks to start at the same point, making them all the same length. This helps in aligning tracks in the mixing session.
• Export in WAV format, 24-bit depth, and a sample rate of 44.1kHz or higher.
• Label Tracks: Include a brief label for each stem (e.g., "Lead Vocal," "Acoustic Guitar," "Snare Drum") for easy identification.
• Guitar & Bass tracks: provide clean DI track for guitars & bass, as well as the distortion tracks.
• Separate Drum Channels: Drum tracks must be provided in individual channels (kick, snare, hihat, toms, overheads, room).
• Prefer Dry Signals: Apply any essential effects that are integral to the sound (e.g. specific guitar pedal effects), but turn off dynamics processing (like compression, eq) and time-based effects (like reverb, delay) unless they are crucial to the track's sound, cancel panning.
• Convert MIDI to Audio: Convert any MIDI instruments to audio tracks.
File Organization
• Organize all tracks and related files into a single folder. Mention the BPM + Key of the song in the folder name
• Compress the folder into a ZIP file to reduce the file size and ensure no files are missed or corrupted during transfer.
• Use a file transfer service such as WeTransfer, Dropbox, or Google Drive to upload your ZIP file. These platforms are secure and can handle large files easily.
• Share the download link with me via email at catfoodstudio88@gmail.com (mailto:catfoodstudio88@gmail.com?subject=Project Stems)
Reference Tracks
If you have any reference tracks that capture the sound or vibe you're aiming for, please share them. This will greatly assist in aligning our visions for the final mix.
Please note that the quality of the finished mix is fully dependent on the quality of the initial recordings.
Mixing does NOT include editing and/or vocal tuning (additional details if these things need to be done as well).
